Jean-Baptiste Leclerc-Francoeur was born around 1659 in St-Nicolas, Brittany, France. Son of Jean Leclerc and Perrine Merceron, he married Madeleine Langlois, daughter of Jean and Marie-Charlotte Belanger, on November 22nd, 1691 in Saint-Pierre, Île d'Orléans. From this union were born 9 children. This soldier of Mr. de Cloches’ company settled down at Saint-Jean-Port-Joli and joins René Lepage from Rimouski, in order to make deals. He would have done credit to savage people and would even gave them his last shirt, which earned him the nickname Francoeur. He died on January 8th, 1709 in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli.

LECLERC – Agglutination of 'the clerk', from Old French, which means any person who can read and write and making it a regular work. Nickname given to a clerk, a secretary, an assistant to a lawyer or a public servant.

One of my Moffet relatives was also called LeClerc. That is because he did work as a clerk at that time. That is probably where the name developed. However - I must tell you that you don't even have the Maufay-Moffet family listed in your Pioneers, even though they came in 1653 & have been here ever since. There is even a street in Quebec city named after him "Pierre Maufay". I am about 11th generation of the Moffets in Canada, so am surprised that they are not listed on your site. I do have a lot of info from other Genealogy sites & from the Archives in Ottawa & Quebec.
