Etienne de Lessard was born circa 1622 in Chambois, Orne, France. Son of Jacques and Marie Herson, he married Marguerite Sevestre, daughter of Charles and Marie Pichon, on April 8, 1652 in Quebec. They had 11 children. He came to New France in 1646 and settled in Ste-Anne de Beaupré in 1651. In 1677, he was granted the seigneurie de l'Ile-aux-Coudres. He is also militia captain. Man of means, he is a church warden and a benefactor of Petit-Cap church, for which he had give 2 acres of land for its construction. He died on April 20, 1703 and was buried the next day in Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré.
