Pierre Garand was baptized on January 15, 1644 in Mont-aux-Malades, Seine-Maritime, France. Son of Charles and Anne Maillet, he married a king's daughter, Renée Chanfrain, daughter of Vincent and Marguerite Lebreton on October 27, 1669 at Ile d'Orléans. From this union were born 8 children. He married a second time with Catherine Labrecque, daughter of Pierre and Jeanne Chotard, on November 21, 1684 at Ile d'Orléans. They had 7 children. In 1665, he worked as a servant. He lived in Quebec, then at Ile d'Orléans. In 1681, he owned 1 rifle, 2 heads of cattle and a 7 acres land. He died at Ile d'Orléans on January 7, 1700 and was buried the next day.
