FREEMAN, JR., DR. OSCAR W., a retired internist and former Medical Director of The Central Florida Blood Bank, died August 22, 2003 at the age of 81. Born in Gadsden, AL, he graduated from Emory University in Atlanta where he finished medical school and did his internship and residency at Grady Memorial Hospital. He and his family moved to Orlando in 1954 to practice internal medicine. Many friends and patients in Central Florida credit Dr. Freeman's early diagnoses for saving their lives. In the late 50s, with his sub-specialty in renal disease, he was the first physician in Florida to treat patients on Orange Memorial Hospital's artificial kidney machine (the only one in the southeast U.S.). For eighteen years, Dr. Freeman was the medical director of The Central Florida Blood Bank and his many contributions included the development of the bone and tissue bank at the blood bank. He was an Eagle Scout and loved the outdoors. He was very devoted to his family as well as his profession. Survived by wife of 57 years Laura Jean; sons O.W. "Bill" (Sheree) Freeman, III, Orlando, Ken (Celeste) Freeman, Vero Beach, Barry (Staci) Freeman, Port Orange; eight grandchildren Benn, Chase, Mike, Andrea, Trapper, Jessica, Blake, and Shawn; sister Ann (Bob) Murrah; niece Frances (Britt) Lovett; nephew Dr. Bobby (Lisa) Murrah. Memorial service will be held Tues., Aug. 26 at 2PM at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando.
