SOUTH PARIS, Maine Mary Howard Freeman, 89, passed away January 17, 2005 at Market Square Health Care Center. She had been in the rehabilitation unit recovering from a broken hip. Mary died peacefully in the company of her daughter, granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. She was born in Albany, N.Y. on April 4, 1915, the daughter of William and Georgia Howard. As a young woman, she wanted to teach young children. She attended Wheelock College and Columbia University. She taught kindergarten for 35 years, most of which was in Delmar, N.Y. Many remember her positive attitude and spirit while being educated in her classroom. Mary and her husband Frank (Red) had two children. Mary will be remembered as a vital, loving, good-humored and friendly woman who had bettered the lives of many. She is survived by her two children, Mary Ellen Smith of Paris and Frank (Rusty) Freeman and his wife Linda of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Charlie and his wife Wendy of South China, Don and his wife Heather of Ottawa, Canada, Katie Tripp and her husband George of Norway and Heather Freeman of Atlanta; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Frank. A private family service will be held at Weston Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris with interment and memorial services to be held in Albany, N.Y. in April.
