Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Crestwood Chapel for Mary B. Freeman, 95, who passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008. The Rev. Elton Beasley and H.M. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct.Mrs. Freeman was a native of DeKalb County but had lived most of her life in Gadsden. She had worked at the former Dwight Mill for 25 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church and had been a member of the Alabama City Eastern Star Lodge since 1931.She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 55 years, Ernest Freeman.Mrs. Freeman had no children of her own but was a second mother to all of her family. She loved children. After her sister and brother-in-law passed away, Mrs. Freeman took her sister's children, Landis and Michael Manderson, into her home and was a mother to them.She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and many friends from the Holy Comforter House, her Sunday School class and the residents and staff of the Meadows.Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Vic and Pam Worley, Stella Gregory and Brent Blackwell.The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the fifth floor at Riverview Regional Medical Center.The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home.
