MARIE JACQUELINE (SHAPPY) DUBOIS - SOUTH BURLINGTON - Marie "Jackie" DuBois, of South Burlington, passed away at home, peacefully in her sleep, on March 8, 2015, after a brave battle with cancer. Marie was born in Burlington on Feb. 6, 1939, the daughter of 10 children of the late Howard Joseph and Marie Melvina (Nichols) Shappy. Marie enjoyed her early years as a seamstress, first in the clothing industry in Springfield, Mass., before working at Maternities in Burlington, Vt. She later purchased Custom Decorating with her partner, Bunnie Perras, where they worked together in the manufacturing and sales of custom window treatments. Marie enjoyed dancing, knitting, gambling, hunting and fishing, and for years she would spend winter months at Daytona Beach, Fla., soaking up the sun and flying their plane. She loved lighting up the night sky on July 4th with fireworks at her camp on Coles Pond. Marie is survived by her children, Veronica Lambert of St. George, Vivian Sheehan and partner, Kevin Kaigle, and his daughter, Chelsea, of Charlotte, and Vincent Quinlan of Shelburne; grandchildren, Stacy Pepper and husband, Benjamin, and son, James, of Colchester, Sonia Martin of Colchester, David Breiner and partner, Samantha Rivers, of Starksboro, Lindsay and Emily Sheehan of Charlotte, Marie Kaigle of Charlotte, and Courtney Griffin and husband, Charlie, of Carthage, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Landon Martin of Colchester, Taylor Breiner of Starksboro, and Noland Patrick Griffin of Carthage, N.Y. Marie also leaves behind her devoted partner of nine years, Gary Charbonneau, who was by her side with unconditional, loving care; one sister, Claudette (Shappy) Barton and husband, Glen, of Missouri; three brothers, Emerald Shappy and wife, Madeline, of Burlington, Ronald Shappy and wife, Marlene, of Grand Isle, and John Shappy and wife, Elizabeth, of Burlington; sister-in-law, Carol Shappy of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Virginia Marie Breiner, in 1987; her husband, Homer DuBois, in 1999; siblings, Keith Shappy, in 2012, Ursala (Shappy) O'Brien, in 2005, Bernard Shappy, in 2002, Jeannette (Shappy) Southwell, in 1984, and Virginia (Shappy) Pefley, in 1971. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in South Burlington. Visiting hours will be held at the Ready Funeral Home on Shelburne Road, Burlington, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
