MARTEL, Linda It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Patricia Martel (nee Hughes) on December 5, 2013. Linda fought a long and courageous battle with breast cancer and she is a true example for us all on how to face life's toughest challenges head-on, with perseverance and strength. Linda never gave up the fight and we are so proud and love her for it. She left this life with grace and dignity, surrounded by her family at home - exactly as she wanted. She was the cherished daughter of David and Denise Hughes, born May 20, 1957 in Ottawa. She was the beloved wife and partner of over 39 years to Robert (Bob) Martel. Her greatest accomplishment in life, she often told those around her, was her three children Brent (Alicia), Lisa (Shawn) and Derek. Her greatest treasure, without a doubt, was her grandson Owen. Linda was big sister to, and will be greatly missed by, her siblings Diane Hammond, Michael Hughes, Alan Hughes (Lisa Moore), and Brenda Chevrier (Dave MacIntosh). She was also a dear sister-in-law to Dennis (Judy), Sue (Pierre Sarrazin), Sandy (Rob Lethbridge), and Michel (Josée); and daughter-in-law to Patricia and Maurice (deceased) Martel. Linda was also niece to Des & Nancy Smith, Elsie & Don Robert, and Dennis & Helen (deceased) Lamothe. She leaves behind many much-loved cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She will remain forever in the hearts of special friends John & Kathy Connell and Glenda Jones. Linda lived her final years to the fullest - travelling, resting at quiet cottages, laughing, finding joy in the small things and treasuring tiny moments as they happened. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate and caring oncology staff at St. Mary's Hospital in Montreal - with a special thanks to Dr. Adrien Langleben. A celebration of Linda's life will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road on Saturday, December 14th, 2013 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow the service.
