Family-Placed ObituaryCHARLES F. HAWTHORNE Charles Freeman Hawthorne went to his home to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on February 27, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 49 years, family and Hospice. His tremendous courage shown throughout his long battle with cancer was sustained through his unshakable faith and strong will to finish a job well done! Charles was born in Kenbridge, VA on his family owned farm. This instilled a love of the land and a strong work ethic. He loved heavy equipment. Shaping God's land was his specialty. He helped lay a solid ground for Christ Fellowship's Place of Hope and the ground work of the new addition. He was an active member of Christ Fellowship and their Top Gun organization for men. He was the owner of Hawthorne Excavators, Inc. in Virginia. He and his wife sold the company to retire and move to Florida. They brought their boat down the inter-coastal from Virginia and made trips to the Caribbean Islands to fish and scuba dive. They are members of the Palm Beach Sail and Power Squadron. Charles soon found he had time to play and work and started a new construction company, C&L Hawthorne and Son, Inc. He was also dedicated to the STAR Prison Program and Canine Companions for Independence where he and his wife helped socialize and train dogs raised by inmates in the program. He was an avid photographer and took hundreds of pictures of the dogs and inmates for the prison. He is the son of the late Thomas Lloyd Hawthorne and Sallie P. Hawthorne. He is survived by his wife, Linda Brooks Hawthorne of Richmond, VA; son, Robert F. Hawthorne and wife, Debbie of Jupiter, FL; daughter, Elizabeth and husband, Michael A. Dillon of Jupiter, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Fred Balarz of Powhatan, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugh C. and Mary Penn Hawthorne of Chesterfield, VA; Len and Agnes Reed Hawthorne of Kenbridge, VA; deceased brothers, Earl and Glen Hawthorne and surviving sisters-in-law, Pat Hawthorne and Frances Hawthorne Jenkins. There are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service held at Perseverance Church in Dundas, VA on April 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County or Canine Companions of Orlando (CCI.org). To express condolences and/or make donations Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries
