Dean A. Carter, 90, died Sept. 3, 2011, at The Place in Vero Beach. He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, and lived in Fort Pierce for nine years, coming from Honolulu. He was a retired pilot with TWA for 35 years. He served as a captain in the Army Air Forces during World War II and was a member of the Flying Tigers. He also flew "The Hump" in the China, Burma, India theater. Survivors include his sons, Nick Carter of Santa Barbara, Calif., Jon Carter of Fort Pierce and Christopher Carter of Tampa; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
