Dean A. Carter, 90, died Sept. 3, 2011, at The Place in Vero Beach. He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, and lived in Fort Pierce for nine years, coming from Honolulu. He was a retired pilot with TWA for 35 years. He served as a captain in the Army Air Forces during World War II and was a member of the Flying Tigers. He also flew "The Hump" in the China, Burma, India theater. Survivors include his sons, Nick Carter of Santa Barbara, Calif., Jon Carter of Fort Pierce and Christopher Carter of Tampa; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was preceded death by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn Carter. Memorial contributions may be made to Folds of Honor Foundation at www.foldsofhonor.org/donate. Services: A memorial will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 17 at Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, with inurnment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce.
