A native of Yancey county, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Ruth Robinson Freeman and a retired employee of Glen Raven Mills.Surviving are a daughter, Sherry Fender and husband, Bill; and two grandsons, Jonathan and Casey Fender, all of Burnsville; three sisters, Genavee Layell and Willa Mae Whitson of Burnsville and Jerlean Silvers and husband, Stanley, of Swannanoa; a brother, Doyle Freeman and wife, Teresa, of Mills River; a niece and a great niece; a nephew and two great nephews. Betty Jean was very devoted to her family and friends.Funeral service will be held at 1 PM Monday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Pastor Charley Carroway will officiate.
