Obituary of Berthe-Jean Nadeau


MACARTNEY, Berthe Jean “Bette” (nee Nadeau) - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bette Macartney on September 29th, 2009 in her 93rd year. Devoted mother to Maureen Scott of Vineland, Brian also of Vineland, Sharon Rosehart of Elora and Faye Barrick of Barrie. Survived by brother Leo and sisters Claire Harlyvitch and Cecile Savicky, all of Espanola. Predeceased by Harold, her loving husband of 64 years and brother Harvey. Will be sadly missed by her 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Bette was born and raised in Espanola. After raising her family of 4, she entered the work force in various capacities at Sears, Beaver Lumber and a lengthy stay at the Espanola Times of which she ultimately became the Editor. Her major public service work involved the Algoma chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society in which she held various executive positions including President. Visitations will be held at the BOURCIER FUNERAL HOME in Espanola on Friday, October 2nd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m A funeral mass to celebrate Bette's life will be held at St. Jude Parish, Espanola on Saturday, October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. with interment in the Espanola Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
