SAN ANTONIO -- Alfred E. Nadeau, 83, a former Lowell resident who served during three wars in the Navy, died Sunday, July 3, at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Lovett) Nadeau, to whom he was married for 57 years.He was born in Lowell on July 3, 1922, son of the late Leboire and Florida (Plourde) Nadeau. He and his wife lived in Lowell while raising their three children. He also lived in Pelham and Nashua.Mr. Nadeau had a Navy career spanning 39 years, which included service during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War.He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, U.S. Submarine Vets of World War II, the Elks and the American Legion.According to family members, he had been a champion swimmer in his youth. He also enjoyed golfing.His survivors include three children, Robert Nadeau of Brentwood, N.H., Charles Nadeau of Lowell and Lucinda Hirt of San Antonio; a sister, Rachel Huff of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.He was also the brother of the late Roger and Richard Nadeau, and Rita Sullivan.There will be a private burial at the Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, N.H.
