DUBE _ Fernande Alice January 9, 1918 - January 25, 2009 Fern Dube of Calgary passed away on Sunday at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 91. Fern was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, the second child of Jules and Felicie Ancelet. They came to Coleman, AB when Fern was nine months old. Fern continued to live in the Crowsnest Pass, and it was there she met her future husband Frank Verquin. Frank and Fern were married on December 24, 1942. They had five children, three boys and two girls. They moved to Calgary in 1954. From 1960 to 1972, Fern operated a daycare for children out of her home, sometimes taking care of as many as thirteen children. In 1972, Frank became ill so she gave up the daycare and worked at the Colonel Belcher Hospital in housekeeping until 1977 when Frank passed away. In 1979, Fern married Paul Dube. Fern will be remembered for her beautiful knitting, for which she won many prizes. Her skills at baking, we always had homemade bread, and her love of bingo, as she was a longtime patron of the "Bingo Barn". Fern is survived by her children Roger (Wendy), Dennis, Terry (Barb), Brenda (Norman) Petherbridge and Debbie (Jack) Brander; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are her sisters Mary McPherson and Ida Pruden. Fern was predeceased by her husband Frank Verquin in 1977 and Paul Dube in 2001; her brothers Jules, Cyril, Albert and Abel Ancelet and her grandson Scott Brander in 2008. Fern will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends. Rest in peace Mom. We love you. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 in Didsbury, AB at the 5-0 Club (2500, 15 Avenue) at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary (134, 1935 - 32 Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 7C8).
