ObituaryDorothy Jean Thomas, 80, passed in to the presence of our Lord May 24, 2005 at the Pavilion Shell Point Village, Ft. Myers. She was born June 19, 1924 in Galena, IN the daughter of Herbert and Mary Thomas. She received her BS in Chemistry from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. From 1947-1950 she went to nursing school in Cincinnati, OH getting her RN. Dorothy attended Nyack Missionary College in Nyack, NY. In August 1954 she traveled to Brussels, Belgium to learn the French language as well as the history of the Colonial Congo in Africa. In April 1956 Dorothy set off on her long journey to discover the Congo. Her work in the small village hospital were varied from maternity to diagnosing patients in the hospital. The natives had very bad teeth, so in 1965 Dorothy went to Northern Canada to go to dental clinic. She returned to the Congo in 1967 which was called Zaire. She went on to treat the village and neighboring villages at the dental clinic she had established.In 1987 Dorothy retired to Ft. Myers. She was active in her local church, Christian Missionary Alliance (now Christ Community Church) where she was chair person of the Missionary Committee, Senior Adult Ministry Planning Committee, Evangelism Explosion Support Team, a prayer warrior for all and a tireless visitor to the hospitals and shut-ins.She is survived by cousins, Robert Wolfe, Indianapolis, IN, Mary K. Long, Athens, GA, sisters-in-law Kathryn Thomas, New Albany, IN, Orlena Thomas, Cincinnati, OH; nieces, Karen Lower, Beaver Dam, NY, Janet McNell, Cincinnati, OH and Linda Lampher, Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert & Mary Thomas, her brothers, Herbert R. Thomas and Jerre M. Thomas.She leaves behind many special friends and her close friend Isabelle Rainsberger.A memorial service will be held June 18, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Christ Community Church, Colonial Blvd.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the Great Commission Fund, Christ Community Church (Christian Missionary Alliance).
