WATERVILLE -- Barbara V. Thomas, 86, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on Jan. 22, 2011, at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville, where she had been a resident for the past several years.She was born in Oakland on March 6, 1924, the daughter of Albert P. And Iva M. (Simpson) Thomas.Barbara attended schools in Oakland. Early in her life, she worked at Diamond International and at several summer camps in the Belgrade Lakes area, retiring due to ill health.She enjoyed listening to country music, hymns and sharing memories of the "old days" with her family and friends. She loved playing Beano at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home.Barbara is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and was predeceased by her parents, brothers and sisters.The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home for the wonderful care that Barbara received. Special thank you to Gail B., Barbara's shopping buddy.A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 26 Church St., Oakland. Friends are invited to visit from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Spring burial will be at the Lewis Cemetery in Oakland.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, Activities Department for Beano, 7 Highland St., Waterville, ME 04901.
