NEWTON -- Barbara Ann Thomas, 79, died Feb. 8, 2011, at Oceanside Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hampton, after a lengthy illness. She was born March 16, 1931, in Springfield, Vt., to Sanford B. and Addie Louise (Maynard) Barlow. She grew up and graduated from high school in Springfield, Vt.. She graduated from New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, and began a long and fulfilling career as a nurse. A longtime resident of Newton, she retired from nursing in 1993 from the Exeter Hospital where she had been employed for more than 20 years. She was also a member and former Worthy Matron of Corinthian- Queen Esther Chapter No. 23, Order of the Eastern Star in Kingston. She held State office as Grand Martha from 2001 to 2002. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Kingston. She was well known as a resourceful woman and a creative and clever craft maker. Family members include her husband of 53 years, William H. Thomas II of Newton; two sons, William R. Thomas of Parma, Idaho, and Robert S. Thomas of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Kathryn L. Ward of Las Vegas; and a brother, Donald Barlow of Haverhill, Mass. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Kingston Congregational Church, 6 Church St., Kingston. Burial will be held in Willow Grove Cemetery in Newton. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association. For more information, please visit brewittfuneralhome.com.
