James A. Palmer, née en 1932, conjointe de Ruthlyn G. Glover, fille de Arthur et Una Mackie, mère de Dr. Matthew, Ruth Ellen, Nh, Heather, Marshall, Edward et Melissa, est décédée le 16 décembre 2013 à l'âge de 81 ans.
James A. Palmer, 81, of Framingham, died, Monday, December 16, 2013 at his home in Framingham. He was the husband of Ruthlyn G. (Glover) Palmer of Framingham for 57 years. Born in Boston, Jim was predeceased by his parents, Arthur M. and Una Mackie Palmer and his sister Jane Palmer Fraser. Jim retired from Northeastern University after 38 years as an administrator having been in Electrical Engineering Department for 14 years, and 24 years in the Psychology Department. As an ASA Softball umpire he worked several National Championship Tournaments. As an IAABO Basketball Official for over 50 years he became a life member. He was Secretary Treasurer of Board 175 for over 20 years. He refereed soccer games for high school and Interleague Associations and was Equipment Manager for the Framingham Pics Hockey Team in the 1960s and 70s. A faithful member of the First Methodist Church, he served as Chair of the Trustees. He was a member of many committees including Outreach. He served on many mission trips as adult team member and youth chaperone as well as a staff person for Royal Family Kids Camp. During the Korean War, James served in the U.S. Navy at the rank of RM2 aboard the U.S.S. Donner and later became the President of the U.S.S. Donner Memorial Association for 8 years. He donated countless hours to the Special Olympics Tournaments, and the Victory over Hunger Garden at the church. Using spare time he enjoyed traveling to Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Scotland, England, West Samoa, Tonga as well as the United States and Canada. Besides his wife Ruthlyn, James is survived by his children, Diana Palmer of Nashua, NH, Kimberly Mangerian of Tequesta, FL, Edward Palmer and his wife Katy of Framingham, and Victoria Palmer Viana and her husband Alex of Northbridge; seven grandchildren, Meg (Megamuffin), Jennifer (Niffer), Jami (Ramer Jamer), Brian (Beeper), Cassandra (Quesadiech), Andrew (AK) and James (Paducah) and eight great grandchildren, Jarvis, Trevor, Halle, Collin, Damien, Casey, Haileigh and Levi. James also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews include Susan Fraser Dawes and Carl Fraser. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St., (corner of Union Ave.) Framingham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, December 21, at 1PM at the First United Methodist Church, 360 Water Street, Framingham, 01701(corner of Brook and Water St.). Visiting hours at the First United Methodist Church will be Friday, December 20, from 5 | 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to First United Methodist Church, 360 Water Street, Framingham, 01701 or the Special Olympics of Massachusetts.
