OLEAN - Frances D. Wheeler of 1009 River St. passed away Thursday (Oct. 18, 2012) at Olean General Hospital after a long illness.Born March 13, 1930, in Olean, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Jonak Loskey. On Jan. 27, 1951, in the Transfiguration Church in Olean, she married John A. Wheeler, who survives.Frances was a graduate of Olean High School class of 1947, and Westbrook Academy.She was a secretary to the vice president of Daystrom Corp. for several years. She later worked for public accountant Kathleen Crainer until her retirement.Frances was a member of the Transfiguration Church, sang in the choir and was a lector eucharistic minister. She was most recently a member of St. John's Church.Frances was an avid bowler in her younger years. She also enjoyed traveling to Branson, Mo., and to the Grande Old Opera in Nashville, Tenn.In addition to her husband of 61 years, she is survived by a son, John F. (Elizabeth) Wheeler of Cheektowaga; a son-in-law, Martin Skipworth of Rochester; and two sisters, Theresa (Donald) Budzinski and Mary Ann Loskey, both of Olean.She was predeceased by her parents; and a daughter, Kathleen Wheeler Skipworth.Family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Funeral services will be held Monday (Oct. 22, 2012), beginning with a prayer service at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. and followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church. Father Edward Sheedy, pastor, will be celebrant.Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.Memorials may be made to St. John's Church, Olean.
