<!-- Phillip Abbott JONES--> JONES, Phillip Abbott Age 64. Died May 17, 2009 at The Alive Hospice in Nashville. Born on October 17, 1944 in High Point, North Carolina. Phillip was the son of the late John Bonner and Ruby Abbott Jones. He received his BA degree from ETSU in Johnson City, TN and his JD and MA in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Before starting his career, he served with the armed forces for two years in Germany during the Vietnam War. Having practiced law for a number of years, he later taught classes in philosophy, critical thinking, ethics and religion at Nashville State Community College. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching, the challenge of getting young people to think for themselves, and helping them to become better equipped to evaluate tough issues encountered in life. He also loved cooking, gardening, fishing, listening to good music, reading, and writing poetry. While fighting cancer the last few years, he often spoke of the good friends who supported him whom he had met in Gilda's Club. Phillip was an Episcopalian and a member of Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville. The body has been cremated. Surviving: wife, Phyllis Clark Jones; daughter, Amanda Curtis and husband Jason of Knoxville; son, Bryan Alston Jones of Bristol, VA; step daughter, Sarah Scott and husband Kevin; step son, Craig James and wife Kristin; six step grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Jack Collins of Knoxville and their children Laura, Christopher and Robert; sister-in-law, Sherry Ridgeway and husband Grant of Okeechobee, FL; brother-in-law, Kenny Dickerson and wife Susan. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, date and time to be announced later. Memorial donations may be made to Christ Church Cathedral, 900 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203; Gilda's Club, 1707 Division Street, Nashville, TN 37203; or Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
