Yvon Richard 1936-2014 At the Rexton Lions Nursing Home, on May 5, 2014, Yvon J. W. Richard, aged 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife of 51 years, Roberta Daigle, his two sons, Denis of Moncton and Robert (Mélissa Robichaud) of Dieppe, his granddaughter Krista (Mike), his grandson Brandon (Lisa) and David Mazerolle. Born in Camerons Mill (NB), he was the son of the late Joseph Richard (Wilfrid and Émilie Richard) and Madeleine Gallant (François and Zélia Guimond). In addition to 60 nieces and nephews, he leaves in mourning five sisters and four brothers: Aurélie Daigle (late Gérald) of Sterling (Massachusetts), Florence Léger (late Ulysse) of Beacon (New York), François (Dina Comeau) of Leominster, Laurie (Adélia Blanchard) of Saint-Charles, Émerie (Marie-Anne Babineau) of Leominster, Rose-Mai Gallant (Yvon) of Saint-Ignace, Eugénie Babineau (Alfred) of Saint John, Yolande Richard (late Elmo) of Richibucto and Paul-Émile (Gisèle Robichaud) of Camerons Mill. He was predeceased by five sisters and five brothers: Irénée (Marguerite Daigle) of Saint-Hilaire (QC), Camille (late Lucie Richard) of Richibouctou-Village, Wilfred (Marie Richard) of Leominster, Edmond (late Jeanne Richard) of Camerons Mill, Gérard (Maria Richard) of Saint-Ignace, Bertha Fournier (late Jean-Jacques) of Montréal, Alexina Richard (late Émile) of Camerons Mill. Émilie, Zélia and Gemma died at an early age. By marriage, he also leaves in mourning more than 12 nieces and nephews as well as four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Lorraine of Leominster, Émilia (Bernard Richard) of Sainte-anne-de-Kent, Joan (Ronald Boudreau) of Scoudouc and Joyce (late Ronald Noël) of Cocagne. In community activities, Yvon devoted more than 25 years with the Amisol choir, 40 years with the Knights of Columbus, and 25 years in various parish services. In the field of sports and recreation, uniting elements which he privileged, Yvon occupied the position of director, president and vice-president of the Kent Centre Minor Hockey Association from 1972 to 1981. From 1981 to 2000, he presided the Recreational Council, founded and presided the Picnic-5P as well as the Carnival and Winter Frolic of Richibucto. In 1985 and 1995, he directed the provincial picnic at the Jardine Municipal Park in Richibucto. In margin of the "Congrès mondial acadien" in 1994, he presided the preparations of the "Foire international des métiers d’art" in Richibucto. In the realm of municipal politics, between 1983 and 2008, Yvon invested himself proudly and passionately as town councillor with the Town of Richibucto, including six years as Deputy Mayor. From 1985 to 2000, with one year as vice-president, he directed and represented his municipality within the Kent District Planning Commission. At retirement in 2001, Yvon had worked close to 40 years as welder and pipefitter with local 325 (previously 699), including three years as business agent. For short periods of time, he was also a volunteer firefighter, manager of Charles J. Daigle arena and of "Marina du Suroît" as well as co-owner of Apollo '77 Sport with his wife. His respect and affection for the Joseph W. and Madeleine Richard family never left him. In 1989, with several descendants, Yvon actively participated to the creation of the "Domaine au pont couvert inc.", by buying the ancestral home of Wilfrid and Émilie Richard in Camerons Mill – a location for meetings and gatherings of Joseph W. and Madeleine Richard descendants, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2014. The family wishes to thank the doctors Michelle LeBlanc, John McCleave and Josette Vautour as well as all the personnel of the Rexton Lions Nursing Home and also doctor Alatishe Moses of Moncton. Resting at Thompson's Funeral Home, Richibucto with visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Saturday at 9:00 am until departure for the funeral. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 am, St. Louis de Gonzague Roman Catholic Church, Richibucto. Arrangements are in care of Thompson's Funeral Home, Richibucto (523-4252).
