WILLIAM DEAN WHITTEN VALPARAISO, IN William Dean Whitten, 47, of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, December 31, 2007. A lifetime resident of Northwest Indiana, he was born April 30, 1960 in Hammond to William Arthur and Marvadene (Doolin) Whitten. He graduated from Whiting High School, was a self employed truck driver, and for the last five years had been a corrections officer at Westville Correctional Center. Bill was an accomplished horse trainer, enjoyed motorcycles and archery, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Kentucky. On November 16, 1979 in Double Springs, AL he married Diana Smith, who survives, along with his mother, Marvadene Tate of Horse Branch, KY; two brothers: Ricky Wayne Whitten of Hammond and Brian (Pam) Whitten of Schererville; nephews: Brian Whitten, Jr., Stevie Engel and Jeffrey Smith; nieces: Madison Smith and Hannah Musgraves; brothers in law: James Smith of Tennessee, Jeff Smith of New Buffalo, MI, Kenneth Smith of Chesterton and Scott Smith of Indianapolis; sisters in law: Teresa Smith and Donna (Bob) Musgraves both of Valparaiso; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, Minister Troy Johnson officiating, with burial at Kimball Cemetery.
