William (Bill) H. Strong, 84, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Havenwood Health Services, Concord. He was the beloved husband of Betty A. Strong for 57 years. Born May 24, 1929, in Hartford , Conn., Bill grew up in Plantsville and Westbrook Conn., son of Ethel C. and William M. Strong. He attended General Motors Institute, Flint, Mich., and served in the U.S. Army. He started his long career in regional automotive service management with Chrysler, continuing to work with Datsun, Saab, Subaru, and American Isuzu. He was a Concord resident for the past 10 years after 10 rewarding retirement years of missionary work in nearly all 50 United States. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Julia A. Smith of Wallingford, Conn., and William J. Strong (Karen) of Nottingham; grandchildren, Christopher A. Smith and Naia Hsu Strong. He leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; and sister, Dorothy Hiller. A celebration of Bill's life will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church, 79 Clinton St., Concord.Interment in Westbrook, Conn. will be at a later date.
