Walter Herman Cox WOODRUFF, SC-- Walter Herman Cox, 88, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. He was the widower of the late Mary West Cox, a son of the late Joseph Brazil and Bernice Rogers Cox. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Will, Jimmie, Jonah, Vernon, Carl, J.B. and James Cox; four sisters Ada Johnson, Lula Rogers, Alma Brown and Louise Cox. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was retired from Cryovac, Duncan and was a former maintenance electrician. He was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where he was a former building committee member, former deacon, and former choir member. Mr. Cox was a member of the Rodeheaver Rogers Sunday School Class. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Judy Cox of Moore; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Mark Adkins of Lyman; three grandchildren and their spouses, Wayne and Lisa Cox, Melanie and Ray Holland and Brent and Samantha Cox; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Cox, Gwynne and Kaitlyn Holland, Rachael and Aidan Cox; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Bevill, Rev. Gerald Burnett, and Rev. Ken Harmon. Casket will be placed in church at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carroll Yeargin, Chadwick Edmonds, Donnie Moore, Larry Boyter, Edward Brown and Sonny Justice. Honorary escort will be Rodeheaver Rogers Sunday School Class of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Visitation was held from 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Wood Mortuary. The family is at the home of the son, Jerry Cox, 322 West Autumn Ridge Road, Moore, SC 29369.
