DAVIS _ - Vivian (nee Thomson) died peacefully in UBC Hospital On February 6, 2004, aged 84. Survived By her daughter Anne Sikstrom (Brian), son-in-law Tom Freeman, grandchildren Dave (Claire), Andy and Hannah, great-grandchildren Melissa, Graham And Reid, sister Dorothy Murdoch, and brother-in-law Ray (Anne). Predeceased by Stan, her husband Of 58 years, and by her elder daughter Linda, both in 2000. Born March 14, 1919 in Manitoba, she moved to Vancouver in 1933. She attended Lord Byng High School, then UBC, receiving a B.A. in Latin and French, followed by a B.Ed. Vivian was a member of West Point Grey Presbyterian Church for 70 years, where she worshipped regularly and volunteered countless hours in many different activities over the decades. She met her future husband Stan in the church Young People's Group, and they were married in August 1942. Over the years Vivian enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends, playing cards, oil painting and reading. She also spent many happy summers at the family's Birch Bay trailer. Viv was devoted to her family: loving Stan and her 2 daughters, treating their husbands as sons, and giving her 3 cherished grandchildren many happy memories of holidays spent with Grammie. Viv faced her life's challenges, including the illness and death of her daughter Linda and husband Stan, with remarkable courage and resilience. Though increasingly frail in body and having experienced declining health for many years, Viv's incredible spirit remained positive and strong, an inspiration to many. Viv was "ready to go", and faced her death with calm faith and fearless hope. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her family thanks the Ward 2-C staff at UBC Hospital, Dr. Nicola James, Rev. Sylvia Cleland and Karen Fleischmann, each for their own special role in the care and well-being Of Vivian and her family. A private memorial service will be held at W.P.G. Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, Vivian requested donations to the B.C. Lung Association.
