NEW ALBANY -- Virginia Marie Mitchell, 73, peacefully passed away Thursday afternoon, October 23, 2003. "She was a warm and caring person whom everyone adored instantly, yet she also possessed a strong mind: confident and compassionate about her thoughts." The second-eldest daughter of seven children from Jasper, IN, Virginia loved to laugh, dance and sing. She was an active member of the Louisville Moose Lodge. Soon after retirement, Virginia lived at Yellowood Terrace in Clarksville, IN. However, she recently moved to Lincoln Hills Health Center in New Albany because of health problems. She was a beloved sister, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by her sisters, Lucille Friedman, Dolores Russell, Patricia Opal, Ruth Ferguson and Sue Jane Schnell; brother, Melvin "Bud" Vonderheide; son, Donald Ray Friedman; daughter, Pamela Jean Friedman; and granddaughters, Victoria Marie Friedman, Casey Marie Friedman and Jessica Leigh Friedman. Virginia wished to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2003, at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd., New Albany.
