VIOLET MAY DAVIS (NEE GILLOW) HOBART, IN Violet May Davis (nee Gillow), age 86, of Hobart passed away Friday, August 8, 2008. Violet was born December 14, 1921 to Arthur and Clara (Oakland) Gillow. Violet came into this world at a mere 2 lbs 2 ozs. At first glance her father thought that she would never survive. She not only survived, but, lived a rich and wonderful life. During World War II Violet was a supervisor in a munitions factory. Violet was a wife and homemaker until she went to work at Muffolettos Bakery at the age of 52 and retired when she was 72 when the bakery closed. Violet loved to knit, crochet, read mystery books, and collect recipes (that she would "someday" get around to making). Violet never met anyone who was not welcome at her house or at her table. If silence were golden she would have millions. Violet was not monetarily wealthy, however she was rich beyond words in family and friends. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Joe. She is the loving mother of Larry (Michelle) Davis, Michelle (David) Schmal, Debbi Lane, Rick (Sharon) Davis. She is the beloved grandmother of Stacey (Shane) Maher, Justin (Tory) Davis, Nicole Balchak, Michael Lane, Corey and Cailee Davis. She is great-grandmother to Nicholas and Katlynd Peterson. Violet will be missed by all who ever had the great honor of meeting her. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E.7th Street, Hobart on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There will be no formal funeral services.
