Viola Jackson January 27, 2011 Viola Rita Jackson, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Fayetteville. She was born in Italy on September 12, 1915. She immigrated to this country at a young age. She and her husband, James DeFurio, operated the S&W Tobacco Company in Syracuse for more than 30 years. Following her husband's death, Ms. Jackson continued to operate the business until her retirement in the 1980s. She married Professor Fred Jackson in 1970, and they enjoyed summers in Italy and other travels until his death. Ms Jackson was a successful artist for many years, and she enjoyed the arts throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Grenga, and a sister, Mary Grenga. Survivors: a sister, Tina Alheid; nieces, Suzanne Alheid Tardio, Celia Almalfie, Kathy White and June Katz; nephews, Harry Alheid and Thomas Grenga; and her goddaughter, Maria Falcone. Services: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday (today) at St. Ann's Church, 104 Academy St., Manlius. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
