RINGWOOD — Services were held for Susan Heyboer O'Keefe, 60, of this community who died on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2013. Mrs. O'Keefe was a writer and editor, the author of many children's books such as "One Hungry Monster," "Countdown to Christmas: Advent Thoughts, Prayers, and Activities," and "Good Night, Good Bless." She also wrote a novel, "Frankenstein's Monster," a novel for young adult readers, "My Life and Death by Alexandra Canarsie"; and a middle-grade novel, "Death by Eggplant." She was a former head of the New Jersey Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Mrs. O'Keefe was a parishioner at the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Haskell. She also worked as a children's editor and copy editor at Paulist Press in Mahwah. She loved making homemade jewelry for her nieces and friends and caring for her two pet parrots, Wallace and Gromit. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Helen Heyboer. Surviving are her husband, Michael O'Keefe; her son, Daniel O'Keefe; her sisters, Louise Boehm, and Cindy Giacobbe; and her nieces. Services were by D'Agostino Funeral Home, 881 Ringwood Ave., Haskell, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Wanaque and interment at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
