JOHNSON _ Stephen Leslie Frederick June 21, 1926 - December 27, 2008 Stephen Leslie Frederick Johnson, beloved husband of Margaret Johnson of Calgary, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at home, surrounded by his family. A non-smoker, Steve fought a brave battle with lung cancer and passed away at the age of 82 years. Born in Welling, Kent, England, Steve worked as a technician at the British telephone company and, after immigrating to Canada with his wife Margaret, began his career with AGT in Calgary. Steve advanced in his career as a Central Officeman Dial in 1953 in Calgary. The family was transferred to Edmonton in 1965 where Steve worked as Plant Methods Assistant. On their return to Calgary in 1970, Steve became Central Office Foreman-Switching and in 1978 he became Section Plant Manager Local Switching. He retired as Section Plant Manager Network Operations Centre and Toll Switching after thirty years with AGT. After his retirement in 1983, Steve devoted his time to the care of his rural home, gardening, building an orchard, travelling, bird watching, compiling a private music collection and painting the canvasses of his British heritage that hang on the walls of his home today. The signs of his craft, artistry and industry, the heritage of his designing mind are visible everywhere on his land that surrounds his home in the foothills of Calgary and bring joy and comfort to his family today. Besides his loving wife of fifty-six years, Margaret, Steve is survived by his four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sharon and Mark Huddle of Calgary, Denise and Freddie Stromness of Salt Lake City, Andrea Davies of Calgary, and Carol and Chris Booker of Calgary; his eleven wonderful grandchildren; and his four great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his sister Kay and her husband Mark James (Steve's best friend) and numerous family members in England.
