ALBANY Sister Helen Hurley, SNJM (Daniel Joseph), age 92, a sister of the Holy Names for 69 years, died at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center on Tuesday, February 22, 2005. Sister ministered in various elementary schools for 35 years at the Academy of the Holy Names, Rome, N.Y. and Albany, N.Y., at St. John the Evangelist, Schenectady, N.Y., St. Catherine of Siena, Albany, New Bedford, Mass., St. Michael's, Silver Spring, Md. and St. Cecelia's, Clearwater, Fla. In 1972, Sister Helen became part of a team of SNJMs who traveled to various parishes to train religious education teachers in New Smyrna Beach, St. Cloud, Kissimmee, Fla., Key West and in Palmetto, Fla. with the Migrant Workers' Apostolate. In 1990, Sr. Helen retired to Albany for community service at the SNJM Province Center. In 1999, she moved to McAuley Residence where she lived until July 2000 when she was transferred to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. Sister Helen is survived by a niece, Dr. Kathleen Blackburn of Boise, Idaho; a nephew, Daniel Hurley of So. Boston, Mass.; several other nieces and nephews. A prayer service at 4:00 p.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 4:45 will both be celebrated Friday, February 25, 2005 in St. Joseph's Chapel at the Sisters of the Holy Names Province Center, 1061 New Scotland Ave., Albany, N.Y.
