Shirley grew up in Fort White. After graduation from Fort White High School she worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Gainesville. Shirley was later employed by Suwannee District Schools in Live Oak as Assistant Transportation Director. After completing a Batchelor of Education Degree at Florida A&M, she taught high school business classes at Ridgewood High School in New Port Richey. When she retired in 2002, she moved to the farm in Bronson. Shirley is survived by her husband of 22 years, Tom Callahan of Bronson; her daughter Kim Langston and sons, Jimmy, Tommy, Michael Hollingsworth, along with many grandchildren all of High Springs.Shirley's creative talents included sewing, cooking, and woodworking and she loved to share these gifts with her extended family. Shirley enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener of native plants. It was not uncommon for her homegrown vegetables to find their way to a neighbors' front porch. Locally she was well known for her okra "trees."Shirley volunteered in her local community and touched the lives of many of her friends and neighbors. The Callahans' annual cane boil brought the opportunity for Shirley's family, friendships and love to be renewed. She will be missed by all.
