RICHARDSON LEE _ Sheila Anne 1944 - 2007 Sheila Anne Richardson Lee passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 after battling a long-term illness. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 11, 1944, Sheila graduated cum laude in 1966 from Newcomb College and received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Tulane University Graduate School in 1976. An American National Merit Scholarship recipient, inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society and winner of numerous Theatre Design competitions, Sheila made her debut in New Orleans Society in 1963/1964 and served as Queen of the Krewe of Athenians during that Carnival season. A child of New Orleans, Sheila was a woman of many talents, a scholar, an artist and an accomplished horsewoman. Before joining the faculty at the University of Calgary in 1980, Sheila held teaching positions at Bucknell University (Lewisburg, PA) and the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA). An Associate Professor in the Department of Drama, in addition to her classroom duties, she contributed elegant and imaginative scenes and costume designs for many of the department's annual seasons of classical and contemporary plays. She retired from the University in 2002. Sheila was predeceased by her mother, Marion Shirer Richardson and her father, Frank B. Richardson Jr. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Stephen Komp) who currently resides in Fredonia, New York. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations can be given to the rebuilding of the Tulane University fund in New Orleans at www.tulane.edu/~giving/ . As well, an undergraduate scholarship in the performing arts is currently being developed in Sheila's name.
