-><!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Johnson, Sharon Kay Roanoke, VA: 65, of Roanoke, VA and formerly of Rochester, NY, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from complications due to cancer. Following her diagnosis last August, she fought the disease with the tremendous ongoing support of the 70-plus Officers and Soldiers of "Miss J's Army" of family, friends, and acquaintances. When the chemo and the radiation had ravaged her body and a positive outcome became unlikely, she elected to spend her remaining days at home in the care of both Carilion Clinic Hospice and her loyal Army."Captain" Sharon leaves behind "Adjutant-General" Donald Koop, her adoring husband of 11 years; and her identical twin sister, Karen Keen of Rochester. Sharon and Karen had been happily reunited during the course of the disease. In addition, Don's extended family and Sharon's several cousins, especially Judy and Scott Hinrichs of NC, mourn her loss but take pride in her life. From humble beginnings but independent, Sharon completed college while working full-time and left a secure job with Eastman Kodak to strike out on her own as a Management Consultant. Through hard work and continuing study, she applied her superior organizational skills to a successful career and an early retirement. Sharon was dedicated to life-long learning and, locally, served as an adjunct instructor at Virginia Western Community College. Her skills at getting things done extended to the home she and Don designed and built in Roanoke where her cooking skills brought joy to her guests, her decorating skills brought beauty to her home, and her planting skills (mostly cactus) brought beauty and life to everything.A celebration of her life will be held at Karen Keen's home at 244 Parklands Drive in Rochester 14616 on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 2 to 6 p.m. Sharon created a scholarship in honor of her mother. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to "The Sharon K. Johnson Endowed Scholarship for the Advancement of Quality Leadership in Business" at the University of Houston. Please contact Nancy V. Clark at 713-743-8873 or nclark@uh.edu. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com. The Johnson family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Salem, VA, 540-389-5441.
