September 9, 2006 Ruth Edwards Carpenter, 94, of West Genesee St., Rd., Aurelius, died Saturday, September 9, 2006, at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Loretta Edwards. Mrs. Carpenter attended Willow Brook School and graduated from Auburn Academic High School in 1928. She was a 1932 graduate of Syracuse University, where she was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Delta Nu and Alpa Epsilon Epsilon, all honorary fraternities. She enrolled at University of Rochester for graduate work followed by seven years on the dietary staff at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Half Acre Union Church, Syracuse University Women's Club of Auburn and the Aurelius Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary. She is survived by second cousins, Rose Mary Byrne and Philip Spearing of Somerset, England; stepchildren, Donna C. Cornman of Arlington, VA, L. Whitney Carpenter and Dr. Caryl E. Carpenter, both of Philadelphia, PA. She was predeceased by her husbands, Reginald Hylton Larkins and Leonard D. Carpenter, M.D.; a stepson, Richard Hylton Larkins; and an aunt, Louise Weeks. There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 18, at Half Acre Union Church, West Genesee St. Rd., Auburn (Town of Aurelius). In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the above church, the American Cancer Society, or to Meals on Wheels, 8-10 Hulbert St., Auburn, in memory of Mrs. Carpenter. Arrangements are entrusted to Langham Funeral Home, LLC of Auburn.
