Obituary of Rose-A. Raymond


EASTPORT - Rose Ann Raymond, 73, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. Rose was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Eastport, daughter of the late John Raymond and Clara (Foley) Raymond Balkam. She graduated from Shead Memorial High School and worked in an office in Calais until beginning her career as a chemist with Mearl Corp., Eastport. Rose attended the University of Maine at Machias and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Eastport. She enjoyed reading, fishing and taking walks with her dog. Surviving are her two sisters, Pauline Amsden of Bristol, N.H., and Linda Smith and her husband, Chris, of Hill, N.H.; brother, William Balkam and his wife, Lee, of Northfield, N.H.; two nephews, Keith Leach of Franklin, N.H., and Kevin Leach and his wife, Jennifer, of Laconia, N.H.; two nieces, Sheri Smith of Franklin, N.H., and Peggy Amsden of Bristol, N.H.; great-niece, Kenzie Amsden; great-nephews, Calvin, Christopher, Aaron, Ian and Eathan Leach, Jonathan Marsh and Joshua Smith; and her faithful canine companion, Babe. A celebration of Rose's life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Mays Funeral Home - Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. Burial will after at Hillside Cemetery.
