BURNETTOWN, S.C. - Mrs. Rosa Mae Smith, 86, of Burnettown, wife of the late Carl Smith, entered into rest on Monday, October 1st, 2012. Born in Davisboro, GA and a resident of Aiken County since 1951, she was a daughter of the late Floyd W. Sr. and Clipsie Upton Smith. Following the death of her mother when she was 2, she was raised by her step-mother, Mary Sammons Smith, who she dearly loved. She graduated Salutatorian from Davisboro High School. During World War II, she worked as a Class A Welder with the shipyard in Savannah, GA. She retired from H.L. Greene s after twenty-seven years of service. A very active and charter member of Mid-Valley Baptist Church, she was a member of the Thelma Hughes Sunday School Class, was a member of the choir, was WMU Director, Sunday School Director and was the church Historian. Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening and was also a member of the Rosie the Riveter Club and the Clearwater First Baptist Church Senior Club. Family members include her children, Linda S. Sloan, (Keith) Williston, SC, Ronald C. Smith, (Elaine) Mint Hill, NC and Terry Smith, (Sherry) North Augusta, SC; siblings, Louise Bridges, Sandersville, GA, Annie Smith, Augusta, GA, Nellie Manning, Carrollton, GA, Martha Jean Stubb, Panama City, FL, Lois Johnson, Gibson, GA, Floyd Smith, Jr., Aiken, SC, James Smith, Sandersville, GA and Louis Smith, Sandersville, GA; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, October 4th, 2012, at 3 o clock at Mid-Valley Baptist Church, Graniteville, SC, with Pastor Jim Kirk and Pastor Bert Baynham officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brian Hanshew, Devin Hanshew and Chris Sloan great-grandsons, Brandon Stallings and Zack Owens and nephew, Eddie Cumbee. It has been suggested by the family that memorials be made to Mid-Valley Baptist Church.
