Roger-J. Williams, born in 1914, son of Basil-Jasper and Eva-Hill, father of Whitesburg, Mary Bennett and Larry, died on October 13, 2003 at 89 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
-> Teepee Trail, Whitesburg - Roger J. Williams, 89, died Monday, October 13, 2003. Mr. Williams was born in Bulloch County Georgia on January 12, 1914, the son of the late Basil Jasper Williams and Eva Hill Williams. He was an engineer with Seaboard-Coast Line Railroad and a member and deacon of the Clayton Baptist Church in Clayton, GA. Mr. Williams was a "real son" of a confederate soldier. Survivors include, wife of 67 years, Flossie McDaniel Williams; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Larry Williams and Dr. Mary Bennett Williams, Whitesburg; grandchildren, Lorri Sommer, Portland, Maine, Leslie Macedo, Stetson, Maine, Timothy Bennett, St. Louis, Missouri; two great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Funeral services were Friday, October 17, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. from the Whitesburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Alec Thompson and Rev. Sheila Crowe officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Sheila Crowe and Mark Street. Funeral Escort and Pallbearers will be the Sons of the Confederate Veteran. Graveside services were Friday, October 17, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. in Oakridge City Cemetery in Tifton, GA, with Confederate Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, those Desiring to do so may make contributions to the Whitesburg United Methodist Church, Jones Mill Road, Whitesburg, GA 30185.
