AUGUSTA -- Robert H. Larsen, 77, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta after a long illness. Bob was born in Seattle, Wash., on May 4, 1934, to Harold W. and Hedwig (Peggy) Larsen. Bob attended Holy Rosary School, graduated from Seattle Prep in 1952 and from Seattle University in 1957, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army in 1978. During his tour of duty, he served in Maryland, Ohio, Washington state, Oregon, Germany and Korea. He was an advisor to the Korean army. He also served in Okinawa and Vietnam and ended his career with the military in Maine as an advisor to the Maine Army National Guard. He was a chief negotiator for the state of Maine for 17 years, retiring in 1994. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 2, Elks Club 964, the Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Military Officers Association. He enjoyed skiing, tennis and sailing for many years. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Katherine Larsen Caldwell. Bob is survived by his wife, Donna (Miller) Larsen; his son, Brett, and his wife, Kellie; four nephews, Brian, Michael and David Ross, and Jon Cox Caldwell; five stepchildren, Louie Collins (Pattie), Scott Collins, Troy Collins, Heidi Hickey (Jamie) and Kelle Choate (Tom); two grandchildren, Katherine and John Larsen; 14 step-grandchildren, Jack Collins, Tara, Trevor and Tyler Collins, Zachary and Jordan Collins, Chelsey, Jake, Shane, Ryan, Meredith and Alison Hickey, Jada and Keegan Choate. The family would like to thank the staff and administration at The Maine Veterans Home and the care and support of Hospice. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Route 133, Winthrop. Bob will be interred with full military honors at noon Monday, Dec. 19, in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
