Robert-George Carter, spouse of Riet Carter, father of Brad, Geoff and Mark, died. Please consult the obituary here:
Robert (Bob) George left us on November 28, 2011. He is survived by his wife Riet; sons Brad and wife Julie, Geoff, Mark and wife Diana; stepsons Tyler and wife Annika, Scott and wife Klara; sisters Pat, Phyllis and husband Russell; his first wife Joan; and by grandchildren Kathryn, Adam, Travis, Matson, Morgan and Nora - all who loved him dearly. Bob was a man who loved all people no matter their status - that was the Prairie in him, to be plain that way. Nothing gave him greater joy than to know his company was happy, nor upset him more than when they quarreled. He stood on civilities, but not on ceremony; he'd want you to dress for Sunday dinner but wouldn't let anyone call him Sir. He was Bob, Dad, Grandpa or Opa. A passionate photographer, Bob went nowhere without a camera over his shoulder and a tripod under his arm. Many mornings found him in the fog of Stanley Park or amidst the chirping birds at Maplewood Flats. Always a true friend and teacher, he shared his knowledge of photography widely. Bob was loyal to The Bank of Nova Scotia for more than 40 years and devoted 15 years to The United Way as a loaned representative. He served on the Board of Directors at Silver Harbour Seniors Activity Centre (where he also taught digital photography and computer skills) and was an honorary member of the North Vancouver Rotary Club. A true gentleman - kind, patient, respectful and caring - Bob walks now under the big blue sky in the Elysian-yellow fields of his beloved Saskatchewan. His family is grateful for the gentle and compassionate care he received at the North Shore Hospice in his last days. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation to help place a permanent marker for Bob in the hospice garden: see http://bit.ly/butterflyforbob A tribute and reception will be held Monday, December 5th at 2pm at First Memorial Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver, B.C.
