Robert 'Bob' Gardiner MANAHAWKIN - Robert "Bob" Gardiner passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011. Born in Trenton, N.J., on April 27, 1929, Bob was a longtime resident of Hamilton Square, N.J., and moved to Perry's Lake in Manahawkin, N.J., with his wife, Jo, in 2002. Bob retired from the State of New Jersey's Division of Pensions after 29 years of service, and after his retirement, enjoyed a second career at Lenox China Inc. He was a United States Army veteran who served in the Intelligence Division in Washington, D.C. during the Korean War. Bob was a 3rd degree Honorary Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7677 in Hamilton, N.J. and was an active parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Parish in Hamilton Square, N.J. for 35 years. Upon moving to the shore, he was a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Brant Beach, N.J. An avid Yankees fan, Bob thoroughly enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's soccer games. He was predeceased by his son, William T. Gardiner III, his parents, Helen and William T. Gardiner Sr., and his brother, William T. Gardiner Jr. Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Josephine (Curran) Gardiner; his beloved children and their spouses, Mary Ellen and Raymond Procaccini of Ship Bottom, NJ, Robert and Betsy Gardiner of Lawrenceville, NJ, Kevin and Sonia Gardiner of Hamilton, NJ, Amy and Edward Rouze of Trenton, NJ, and Shawn and Kim Gardiner of Hamilton, NJ; 13 wonderful grandchildren, and two special great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his brother, Richard D. Gardiner of Naples, FL, and a niece and three nephews, as well as his faithful dog, Lily. Bob will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but never forgotten. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 13th Street and Long Beach Blvd., Surf City, NJ. Burial will immediately follow at Barnegat Memorial Cemetery in Barnegat, NJ. A Memorial Mass will also be offered at St. Gregory the Great Church in Hamilton Square at a later time. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, Ship Bottom, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Food Bank, 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach, NJ 08008.
