COWLEY, Robert “Bob“ Douglas - In loving memory of Robert “Bob“ Douglas Cowley, who passed away at his home in Lively on Monday January 26th surrounded by his family. Bob was born to Evelyn and William Cowley, the youngest of 3 children: Joanne Soul predeceased and Bill Cowley. He grew up in the Beach area of Toronto and came to Sudbury in 1952 to begin his life with his new wife Julia. There he began his policing career retiring in 1987 after 35 years of service, having attained the rank of Staff Inspector. He then went to teach Law and Security at Cambrian College for 5 years. In May of 1975, Bob received his Bachelor degree from Laurentian University attending night school while working and actively raising his six children. After his retirement, along with his partner and friend Emile Lavigne, as well as a group of fellow retirees, he began to establish a museum dedicated to police officers who have served and continue to serve the city of Sudbury. His dream became reality in 2002 with the opening of the museum. Honouring his hard work and dedication it was officially named “The Robert D. Cowley Sudbury Regional Police Museum“. Bob was a devout Catholic having served as a Eucharist minister at St. Pius Church in Lively. Predeceased by his wife and partner of 50 years Julia Cowley (Enright). Loved and respected father of Donna and Michael Jay, Aylmer Quebec, Jennifer and Reg Weber, Waterloo, Dan and Christine Cowley, Brooklin, Susan and Wes Stillar, Sudbury, Patricia and Victor Zack Romeoville, Illinois, Heather and Wayne Martin, Sudbury. Cherished Poppa, his legacy will live on through his grandchildren; Stephanie, Alexandra, Victoria, Meredith Jay, Julie and Ashley Weber, David, Matthew, Daniel Cowley, Adam, Amanda, Deven Stillar, Darcy, Mitchel, Jeffrey Zack, Justine and Andraya Martin. He will once again be able hold his precious grandbaby Christina Jay in his arms. Special friend and companion of Maria DiFillipo of Lively. Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME 233 Larch St., Sudbury Funeral Mass at St. Pius X Church, Lively Friday, January 30th, 2009 at 10 am. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium.
