Peggy O. Akin-Johnson Peggy O. Akin-Johnson, 65, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, at her home in Tallahassee following a long battle with cancer. The service will be at 4 p.m. EST Friday, January 9, at Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com in Tallahassee, Fla. Family and friends will celebrate Peggy's life following the service at the home of Doris and Doug Dunlap, 5379 Pembridge Place in Tallahassee.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peggy's name may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Peggy was born December 16, 1943, in Pensacola, Fla., and was a longtime resident of Panama City, Fla., and Destin, Fla., before moving to Tallahassee in 1985. She was a graduate of Bay High School and Gulf Coast Community College and also attended Huntington College in Montgomery, Alabama.Peggy was a gourmet cook, who was happiest at the beach, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Craig Johnson of Tallahassee; two sons, Rush E. Akin Jr. (and wife Kristen) of Canton, Ohio, and C. Taylor Akin (and wife Leigh) of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Beth McNeil of Marianna, Fla.; her sister, Doris Olive Dunlap (and husband Doug) of Tallahassee; her brother, Andy Olive (and wife Becky) of Tallahassee; and four grandchildren, Christopher and Emelie Akin, Jonathan McNeil and Ashley Davis.Also surviving are four nephews, Shane Smith, Scott Dunlap, Chris Olive and Britt Monroe, and five nieces, Sara Dunlap, Cathy Hudler, Debbie McCutcheon, Nikki Thompson and Rebecca Monroe. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Doris Olive.
