BARTON, Patricia Ruth Born in Edmonton, Alberta on May 13, 1928 to Samuel and Elizabeth Hamill, from Glasgow, Scotland, and Edmonton, Alberta, Patricia, the younger of two sisters, passed away peacefully with her beloved family by her side on Monday June 20 after a short illness. Predeceased by her husband Vern, she will be greatly missed by her children Andrew, Linda (Mark), Nancy (Randy), Louise, and Mary-Ellen; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Christopher, Gregory, Shayne, Kendra, and Reyce, and many relatives and friends. Patricia was raised in Vancouver during the depression and her parents instilled in her a love of family and friends and a commitment to social justice that she carried thorough out her life. She worked at a number of jobs when she was a young woman, including Woodward's, BC Telephone and the Province newspaper and later, after marriage her husband's accounting firm. She was active in the CCF/NDP for many years and participated in community work throughout her life. She was most happy when entertaining her family and friends and loved holidays when she could gather people at her home for dinner. She loved music (especially the bagpipes), dancing, gardening, cooking, classic movies and TV shows (she watched the "Great Escape" over 40 times), the colour pink, her pets and especially travel, and spent the latter part of her life exploring the world with her daughter Mary-Ellen. Her greatest joy was to take her extended family on two cruises to the Caribbean and Mexico in 2007 and 2009. Her kindness, compassion and wonderful sense of humour will dearly missed by all of us and she will be forever in our hearts. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 29th at 11:30 AM at Burquitlam Funeral Chapel, 625 North Road, Coquitlam followed by a graveside service at Valley View Memorial Gardens, 14644 - 72nd Avenue, Surrey at 2:30 PM.
