OLD TOWN - Norman Gerald Veilleux, 75, passed away April 3, 2012. He was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Old Town, son of Rosaire and Claire (Lavoie) Veilleux. Norman grew up in Old Town and was an Amateur Maine Golden Glove Champion. After graduation from Old Town High School in 1954, Norman joined the U.S. Army, and there received the title of All Army Boxing Champion. He later became a professional referee for the sport and called many championship bouts airing on the major broadcasting networks. He was a very generous man who opened his heart and home to many underprivileged youth. Norman is survived by his four children, Suzette Veilleux, Johnny Veilleux and his wife, Kim, Lester Veilleux and his wife, Victoria, and Vicki Veilleux; stepdaughter, Donna Harris; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Philip Veilleux and his wife, Mayre Ann, and John Veilleux and his wife, Peggy; sister, Rosemary Folsom and her husband, John; many nieces and nephews; and extended St. Benoit Quebec family in Canada. In addition to his parents, Norman was predeceased by his son, Alan Veilleux. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
