Obituary of Mr. -Larry-Lane Colley


VALLEY — Mr. Larry Lane "Bub" Colley, 77, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Colley is survived by his wife, Barbara Carmack Colley, of Valley; children, Barry L. (Lynne) Colley, of Birmingham, Julie (Donald) Thompson, of Wedowee and Jody L. (Tonya) Colley, of Valley; grandchildren, Mandy Thompson (Darrell) Gray, and Micah L. (Bonnie) Colley, all of Birmingham, Cody L. Colley and Dustin J. Colley, both of Valley; great-grandchildren, Abby and Blaire Gray, of Auburn and Houston and Owen Colley, of Birmingham; brothers, Harry L. Colley and Richard T. Colley, both of Valley; sister, Patsy Geeter, of Riverdale, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mr. Colley will be at 4 p.m. today, November 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Shawmut with the Rev. Chuck Anderson and the Rev. Roger Hammett officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfax Cemetery with Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley directing. Larry "Bub" Colley was born May 22, 1932, in Langdale, Alabama, the son of the late Homer Lee and Ruby Bailey Colley. He had been a resident of Wedowee from 1960 until 2007. He attended Shawmut and Valley High School. He was a former employee of the Shawmut and Fairfax Mills. He married his wife on July 1, 1950. On March 1960, he began work for the State of Alabama Game and Fish Division. From January 1991 until 1995, he served as the Sheriff of Randolph County, Alabama. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shawmut and the Charles Oliver Sunday School class. He was an avid gardener, private pilot, hunter, fisherman, and loved singing and being a prankster. Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church of Shawmut in his memory.
