Mildred Frances Jackson Smith, 92, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at her residence. She was of Altoona. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, from Lemley Chapel at 2 p.m. with Bro. Robert Wamble and Bro. Lavil Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Mauldin Cemetery. Lemley Funeral Home & Crematory directed.Mildred "Granny" Smith was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church who was very instrumental in organizing VBS and WMU at her church. She went on numerous mission trips to several different states to spread her faith and belief to others. She loved her church and community and always responded when there was a need. She was homemaker-cook-teacher and seamstress who loved to help others in learning how to perfect all of these talents. She loved to write her thoughts and feelings in journal-notebooks and loose paper for all to have and read later in life. She was the original recycling lady and bug collector for ALL her grandchildren. She loved playing games and getting together with family, because family was very important to her.Special thanks to Lawley Hospice and Tammy Cox and Candace Harwood for all the care they showed to our family.She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Fannie Jackson; brothers, Hoyt Wayne Jackson and Ralph Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, John Ray and Frances Smith Nichols; son-in-law, Leon Tilley; and grandchildren, Sandra Frances Nichols and John Timothy Nichols.She is survived by her husband of 73 years, John L. Smith; daughters, Faye (Lavil) Thompson, Mary (Ronnie) Jackson, Martha Smith and Sarah (Ernie) Payne; son, Dan (Elaine) Smith; grandchildren, Donna (John) Fulenwider, Gregg (Candi) Thompson, Ken (LaChristia) Nichols, Chris (Kathy) Thompson, Joy (Dean) Perryman, Joan (Lamar) Coker, Tracey (Johnny) Friedburg, Danny (Jennifer) Jackson, Michele (Ray) Thompson, John (Katherine) Smith, Chris Payne, Lisa (Justin) Bailey and Joseph (Carrie) Payne; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Garrard of Arab, Doris Wilson of Altoona and Velma Harvey (Bob) of Oneonta; brothers, Ray (Nancy) Jackson of Oneonta, Leon (Belvajean) of Opelika and Jerry (Marie) Jackson of Susan Moore.Pallbearers were Ken Nichols, Gregg Thompson, Chris Thompson, Danny Jackson, John Smith, Chris Payne and Joseph Payne.Honorary pallbearers were John Fulenwider, Dean Perryman, Lamar Coker, John Friedburg, Ray Thompson, Justin Bailey and the deacons of Mountain View Baptist Church.
