GEORGES MILLS, N.H. -- Michael J. Davis, 53, of Prospect Hill Road, died at Dartmouth- Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, following a short period of failing health.Mr. Davis was born in Claremont on Jan. 22, 1954, to the late Leon and Althea (Avery) Davis. He was raised and educated in the Claremont and Walpole areas and has worked in the automotive industry in auto body repair most of his life.Mr. Davis was a passionate race car fan and was a driver for many years at the Claremont track and other small tracks around New England until retiring from racing in 1991. He collected scale size race cars and still enjoyed going to the races Saturday nights and visiting with his racing buddies. They were all just one big family.Survivors include his wife, Beniece (Ross) Davis of Georges Mills, they have been together for over 10 years; two sisters, Althea Smith and her husband, Richard, and Eva Davis, all of Wilmington, Vt.; two sons, Matthew of New Hampshire and Marc of North Carolina; two stepchildren: Travis Bunnell of New Hampshire and Corrina Lucas of Charlestown; and a son-in-law, Nathan Lucas, also of Charlestown. He is also survived by two nephews, Richard Smith II of Wilmington and Jeffrey Smith of Stockbridge, Ga.; a niece, Christine Edwards of Toms River, N.J.; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St. in Newport.
