Obituary of Mary Sullivan


SULLIVAN Mary Jean (nee Carberry), age 67, of Hawthorne, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014 in the loving arms of her family. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York she lived in Flushing, Queens before moving to Hawthorne. She was known for her love and generosity to her family, friends and her "babies"- Patches and Ash. She graduated from St. Edmund's Preparatory School and worked for NY Telephone/NYNEX for over 30 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Mary Jean was a parishioner of St. Luke's R.C. Church in Ho-Ho-Kus for many years. She was a devoted sister to Edward Carberry and his wife Dina of Montvale, Paul Carberry and his wife Judy of Charleston, SC, Ginny Burke and her husband Bill of Hawthorne and Carolyn Russo and her husband Paul of Norwood, MA. Loving aunt to her nieces and nephews: Connie, Christine, Jennifer, Paul, Kelly Ann, Ryan and Brendan and eight great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Regina Carberry. The family will receive friends at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home on Friday, November 28, 4-7 PM, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin, Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, November 29 at 9:45 AM at St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church, Wyckoff, NJ, followed by interment at Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood, NJ. Memorial contributions in Mary Jean's memory may be made to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, 2 Shelter Lane, Oakland, NJ 07436.
